Denmark purchases NASAMS air defense system in 500 million euro deal

Denmark has signed a contract for the procurement of NASAMS air defense systems in a deal worth 500 million euros, Kongsberg has announced1.

The company added that:

“The NASAMS system consists of Raytheon’s radar and advanced missile variants, as well as KONGSBERG’s Fire Distribution Center (FDC) and multi-missile launchers.”

The procurement of NASAMS comes months after the Danish government announced a significant investment in air defense systems, in June of 2025, it was announced that they would be procuring 3 types of medium ranged air defense systems from 3 manufacutrers, MBDA France, Diehl Defense and Kongsberg, the latter however was to be a lease of Norwegian NASAMS systems2.

The number of batteries that are now being procured was not disclosed but it’s expected to be two, as it would be in line with the number of VL MICA batteries that were procured from MBDA France in July of this year3.

In preparation for the procurement of NASAMS, Danish soldiers have already been receiving training in Norway.
